Pregnancy week 28

PREGNANCY WEEK 28
11 1/2 WEEKS TO GO!!!

WOW!! I can't believe that we have already hit week 28! I think that the time has really been flying lately, especially with the holiday season. Just a couple more months and he is here!! I need to keep reminding myself that 11 1/2 weeks is really nothing and that I need to enjoy this pregnancy as much as I can because it will soon be over!! I am so incredibly excited to meet this little guy! I just love him so much already!! I am feeling soooo extremely pregnant lately! I feel sooo huge!! I have finally resorted to wearing Paul's clothes when I am home... haha! They are so baggy and so comfortable!!! :-) Here is a picture of me at week 28 sporting Paul's comfy clothes!

I had a really fun experience with my little guy the other night. Before I fall asleep, I really like to at least feel him kick once.. for some reason this comforts me in knowing that he is ok. I was lying in my bed for what seemed like forever, and he wouldn't kick. Finally I put my hand on my stomach and I said out loud "Sweetheart, will you please just give me a little punch or a kick just to let me know you are ok". Not even a second later he kicked SOOOO HARD exactly where I had placed my hand on my stomach. It was so halarious. It was like he had actually heard me and understood exactly what I said. I couldn't stop laughing after that. I thought that was kind of neat!!

The pregnancy is continuing to go pretty well. I have definitely been lucky with this pregnancy. I am now sleeping soooo much better than I was just a couple of weeks ago. I am still having troubles with my hip and butt hurting while I am sleeping and usually have to switch sides every hour, but at least it is a lot better than it was. I think the pain is just caused by the pressure of having so much extra weight! PREGNANCY PILLOWS ROCK!! I am sure by my last month, the only comfortable way for me to sleep will be propped up in a chair! The only other complaint I am having is my acid reflex.. it is pretty bad, but that is to be expected with the baby constantly pressing against the stomach. Tums are now my bestest friend!! My appetite is amazing! HAHA! Last week Paul and I went out to eat at The Golden Corral! It is a huge buffet which means that I ate tons and tons. I was so full afterwards, but about an hour after leaving I honestly felt starved and all I could think about was downing another big meal. I guess baby Craven is a big eater already! :-)
Well here are some facts on week 28:

Welcome to the third trimester. By 28 weeks pregnant your baby is 15.75 inches or more! He weighs in at about 2 and a half pounds! Your baby should also be sprouting eyelashes by pregnancy 28 weeks, which will blink repeatedly if you were to shine a bright light on your belly. By pregnancy 28 weeks your uterus measures at least 3 inches above your bellybutton, or is approximately 28 cm tall. You should be steadily gaining weight from pregnancy week 28 and beyond. The baby is busy adding new skills such as blinking to an already impressive repertoire of tricks like coughing, sucking, hiccuping, and taking practice breaths. Your baby's sleep now includes the REM (rapid eye movement) phase — and that means he could be dreaming already. Also, their industrious little bone marrow is now a major construction site for developing red blood cells, while their super-cute adrenal glands are actually producing androgen and estrogen—which will stimulate your hormones to begin milk production. His brain tissue continues to develop folds and grooves on what was once a smooth surface. Even though he's bigger, he still has plenty of room to flip around, so whatever position he's in right now will likely shift over the next three months. The lungs are capable of breathing oxygen now, but your baby would struggle to breath properly if born now. About 9 out of 10 babies born now will survive with intensive care services and the help of medical technology
I found this recipe on http://www.allrecipes.com/ (my favorite recipe site) and tried making them a couple of days ago...and they turned out soooooo yummy!! I think this is now my favorite chocolate chip cookies recipe. I doubled the recipe..and still they were gone within a couple of hours of making them. I will definitely try these again!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 egg
1 egg yolk
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets or line with parchment paper.
Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.
In a medium bowl, cream together the melted butter, brown sugar and white sugar until well blended. Beat in the vanilla, egg, and egg yolk until light and creamy. Mix in the sifted ingredients until just blended. Stir in the chocolate chips by hand using a wooden spoon. Drop cookie dough 1/4 cup at a time onto the prepared cookie sheets. Cookies should be about 3 inches apart.
Bake for 15 to 17 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges are lightly toasted. Cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Week 26
Me at week 26^

26 weeks is the last week of the second trimester. Wow it is going by so fast! Only 14 more weeks to go. It's crazy to look back on this blog when I was just at 8 weeks. The pregnancy is going well except for the last couple weeks I have had awful heart burn, and I have had an extremely hard time sleeping. Paul was nice and let me buy a pretty expensive pregnancy pillow which has helped me sleep a lot better. I cannot believe how much weight I have gained.. I think I am to the max of average weight gain during pregnancy, and I still have 3 months to go..WHOOPS! I need to start exercising a lot more than I have been and eat a lot healthier!!Today we went in for our 26th week appointment (We are currently 25 weeks and 5 days)!! I wish we could have had an ultrasound, but we didn't. Instead, I got measured for the first time. We were told that we measured at exactly 26 weeks.. which means that the baby is now 2 days bigger than average... He caught up 6 days from our last appointment!!!! :-) We also were able to hear his heartbeat which is always fun!! I also got tested for gestational diabetes, which meant having to get poked by scary needles, and will find out the results of that test in the next couple of days. I talked to the doctor about my issue of not being able to sleep well at all, and I was told that I can safely take Tylenol PM to help me sleep... YESSSSSSSS!! That was honestly the best news that I have heard in a very long time!!!!!!! My sleepless days are over!! I can't believe that in a week from tomorrow, we only have 3 months left!! I am so excited to finally be able to meet little Craven junior. Here are some interesting facts about week 26! ENJOY!!

Your baby's developed oil and sweat glands are now functioning. His fingernails, toenails, eyebrows and eyelashes are now fully present and will continue to grow until birth. He can respond to sound and can hear you and those around you. Although we assume that the uterus is a quiet place, the baby has been surrounded by noise for a long time. Things like your heartbeat, digestion, other body functions and external noises are heard by the baby. In fact, you may feel the baby jump at a sudden noise. Your baby is now about 14 inches and weighs a little less than two pounds.
The uterus also allows some light to be seen so your baby is aware of light and dark. Your baby's skin is wrinkled and translucent and may have a reddish color due to the presence of dermal blood vessels. Veins are visible through your baby's skin, although it is quickly changing from transparent to opaque. The following months will see increase in body fat. The lungs continue to mature with the development of air sacs and also begin to secrete surfactant (a substance that will help your baby's lungs expand at birth). At this stage of development the various organs have formed. About 4 out of 10 babies born now may survive (with intensive care services).

GO COUGARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night my dad gave Paul and I tickets to see the last BYU football home game of the season. So today Paul and I went and had so much fun. BYU played San Diego State and totally killed them. The final score was 41-12! It was incredible!!! They captured a third- straight undefeated home season!! The stadium was packed and the crowd was on fire! It was so much fun to be amongst all of the BYU fans.. amazing atmosphere! I haven't been to a football game for a long time, but I definitely want to go to games more often. Paul was such a good sport to come with me to the BYU football game, and even tried to wear his University of Utah t-shirt, but I wouldn't let him. I think after watching this game though, he was converted to BYUism!! :-)

WE ARE HAVING A......

Last Wednesday Paul and I went in for our 22 week doctors appointment and ultrasound to find out what sex our baby is! I have been so extremely nervous for this appointment, because at this appointment the doctor counts the chambers of the heart, looks at the different parts of the brain, spinal chord, he counts fingers and toes, and just makes sure that the baby is devoloping normally. I was so worried that something was going to be wrong with our baby, but luckily the doctor said that everything looked great! Thank goodness!! He did tell us that our baby was 4 days smaller than average, but that was nothing to worry about. He also told us that our baby is.......A BABY BOY!!!!!

We are so extremely excited and couldn't be happier! It is so much fun because when I go shopping for baby things I can buy blues instead of yellows and greens!!!!!! It was so exciting to see the ultrasound and to see that our baby actually looks like a baby. It was a big change from our last ultrasound when the baby looked like a gummy bear. We saw our baby yawn and suck it's thumb..it was absolutely adorable and I kept thinking the whole time that this is Pauls and my baby.. we created this beautiful baby boy! It was such an incredible feeling.. I can't even describe it! I just love our baby boy so much already and I can't wait until I finally get to meet him! A down side of the appointment was that we had brought in a cd and a dvd to copy our baby on, but when we got there, they told us that they could only copy on VHS videos. Who uses VHS videos anymore?? So, we will make sure that we bring in a VHS movie for our next ultrasound so that we can get a video of our boy! We did get a couple of pictures of the different features of our baby boy! ENJOY!!

If you look closely right in the middle of this picture, you can tell that yes, he really is a baby boy! :-)

His little hand is cupping and right above his arm, you can see the umbilical cord

I thought it was so much fun to see a picture of his tiny leg and feet! Sooooo cute!!

This picture was my favorite because you can see his whole head. I thought it was fun to see that he has a very distinct little chin and a cute nose!

MY OBSESSIONS!!

Ok, so about half a month ago Kristen Johnson tagged me on my 8 obsessions. I totally missed my name at the bottom of her list, so I am so sorry Kristen that this has taken me so long, but here I go. Better late than never I guess! :)

MY 8 OBSESSIONS:

1. Travel- Travel is my absolute #1 passion. I would honestly travel everyday the rest of my life if I could. There is something about different cultures and people, different lands, different languages, different foods, etc. that totally invigorates me. I have had the opportunity in my life to travel tons and have visited well over 20 countries. My longer experiences in travel include: spending 7 months in London, England in a study abroad program with BYU, 1 1/2 years total (4 times back and forth from Utah)teaching english to children ages 3-18 in and traveling around Russia, and my 8th grade school year in Askim, Norway. My dream is to visit Italy and Africa.. SOMEDAY :-)

2. Soccer- Soccer is the #1 best sport in the world, hands down. There is nothing like running around up and down a field with a soccerball. I could do it everyday, all day!!! I really miss being in High School where I played soccer about 5 hours everyday!

3. Black Licorice- I would honestly travel to Scandinavia and back just to get a bag of Scandinavian black licorice. I will honestly suck on a piece of licorice for 10 minutes or more just to savor the taste. There is nothing more tastey out there. YUUUMMMYY!!!

4. Christmas- Christmas and the Christmas season is my favorite time of the year. I start counting down for Christmas in February! :-) It is just such a cozy holiday full of love, joy, giving and sharing. I love having a time each year to remember Christ and his birth and how it brings families together. It just seems like everyone is a lot more happy and thoughtful during the Christmas season. ONLY 2 MONTHS TO GO! :-)
5. Sleeping- If there is ever some free time in my day, you will almost always find me curled up in my bed fast asleep! I just LOVE sleep! I don't understand these people, like Paul, that can survive on like receiving 5 hours of sleep a night....give me 10 or more, and I'm happy!

6. Running- a lot of people call me crazy, but I LOVE running!! Whenever I am stressed out, I take off for a run, and I feel calm instantly. I especially love running in the rain! I have ran 1 half marathon(Provo River), and two full marathons (Salt Lake, and Ogden). I am planning on running the Top of Utah marathon next year.

7. Cooking- I absolutely love trying new recipes and new cooking ideas. I'm not that great of a cook, but I have a lot of fun!! It's also a lot of fun to taste what creations you have made afterwards.

8. Taking surveys- So ever since my friend Dave introduced me to the joys of taking surveys and getting paid for it, I have been very obsessed and always squeeze in time to take a couple of surveys daily. Hey.. why not.. it's easy and you get paid! :-)
WOOHOO.. I am done and I tag: Cerra Hawkins, Haylee Skaggs, and Cheryl Rasband

~MY CONFESSIONS~

First of all, I just had to let everyone know that we are exactly half way (plus 5 days) done with our pregnancy!!!! WE ARE SO EXCITED!! Just a little over 4 months left and our baby will be here. To celebrate our half way mark, I went shopping and bought a baby crib mattress cover, top sheets, and about 5 packages of diapers!! :) We are also anxious to find out in a week from today what the sex of our baby will be. I am debating whether or not I should just go to the mall and find out the sex at Fetal Foto.. but I guess I can hold off for one more week. I have been pretty nervous for out next doctors appointment because we find out if the baby is growing and developing properly (brain and heart development, etc.) I will also be able to count fingers and toes so hopefully all the baby parts will be there, and everything will look normal! :) Everything with the pregnancy is going very well. I have had the most energy that I have had throughout the pregnancy so far, and I am feeling very good!! I am having some troubles sleeping, but I guess that goes along with every pregnancy. I also have an enormous appetite, (but I'm not going to complain about that!) :) It has been so wonderful to feel the baby moving around in there. I feel the baby move almost every day now and that has been so special to me. I am just so excited to meet our little baby!!

Ok, Cerra tagged me wanting me to tell the whole world about 3 confessions that I have. I have been putting these off for well over a week, but I guess they need to come out sometime.. so here they are!! :)

1. While I am going to the bathroom, I play bathroom games to try and keep my attention during the ordeal. If there are tiles on the wall I try and guess how many there are without counting them first, and then count them afterwards to see how close I was. I also play scramble with any words or quotes on the walls.

2. I am still totally scared of the dark when I am alone. When Paul leaves for work at 2:30 in the morning, I almost always turn on the light and sleep with it on the rest of the night..not even a night light will do the trick. Whenever I am home and have to go downstairs by myself to grab something, I always take the dog with me!! If I have to use the restroom in the middle of the night, I either try and hold it the whole night, or sprint to the bathroom and back as fast as I can to avoid being in the dark by myself.

3. I have total anxiety from working in an adolescent treatment center. Whenever I go to a grocery store or a resteraunt, I am constantly trying to stay as far away from people as I can.. thinking to myself "They might have a weapon or be dangerous in someway.. wondering which one of them should be in a treatment center that's not...

Weekend at the cabin!!

For the past year or more, my Norwegian uncles and grandma and all of my siblings have been planning a surprise visit/party for my Mom. Since it is always long periods of time between the visits she gets with her family in Norway, we thought it would be fun for them to give her a surprise visit. We rented a beautiful cabin for the weekend in the Heber mountains and catered and made a lot of delicious food. We wished that all of my Mom's brothers could be there but because of money and other obligations, only three of them (Thor-Erik, Frank, and Ole) were able to come, but we were so glad that they were able to make it. Her Mom Solveig and uncle Kjetil and his wife Bente and daughter Mia also came which was so much fun. We were lucky to get the cabin for three nights. The Norwegians arrived on Thursday, and my brothers Teddy and Shane and I picked them up from the airport and it was so nice to take them straight to the cabin. The next morning, the Norwegians and my brothers got the cabin all decorated and ready for the party, while I ran to my sister Donna's house and prepared the rest of the food. We made over 150 rolls.. we had a lot of fun. My brother Erik and sister in law Dara, were so awesome to bring all of the food that we had catered up to the cabin, while I brought all of the prepared food. Donna and her husband Geoff "kidnapped" and blindfolded my Mom and drove her up to the cabin. It was was so much fun to see my Mom's reaction when she took off her blindfold and saw her Norwegian family!! It was classic! We had such a fun weekend. It was so incredibly relaxing. The cabin was 3 stories and was fully loaded with a ping pong table, pool table, jacuzzi, washer and dryer, all of the kitchen supplies you would ever need, enough beds and rooms to sleep all 18 of us, and movies and games, etc. It was pretty dang awesome. It was so much fun. It was so peaceful up there. We had such a great time talking and laughing and enjoying eachothers company. A couple of times, my Mom and I, took wonderful long walks in the forest. We also spent one of the days up there exploringPark City and ate at a really nice steakhouse. I decided up there that someday when I am rich, I am going to buy a cabin. A lot of my pictures were fuzzy because I am lousy at taking pictures, but when I get copies from my family of our awesome cabin experience, I will definitely add them!!
