Yes, the day arrived, Porter started Kindergarten on September 1st. So many emotions running through my head about my baby starting school. So many times the thought crossed my head that how am I going to send him away every day when I was going to miss him so much and that maybe I should just home school so he could be home with me and I could control everything. But then I thought of him and how incredibly excited he was to start school and I just knew that I was being selfish. I heard a quote a couple of days before Porter started school that said something about if you want to raise a confident child, you need to send them out and let them FLY. A couple of weeks before Kindergarten started, we took Porter to meet his teacher, Mrs. Haslam (don’t you love her last name) and get his Kindergarten assessment done. As we were waiting outside his teachers door for his turn, he turned to me and said, “Mom, I am growing older and getting bigger and I am so excited to be a Kindergartener at this school”. I really needed to hear him say that to me. It made me realize that life is always changing and changes are a good thing. I am so incredibly excited for this new journey in Porter’s life. I am so excited to watch him grow and develop in new ways. Porter is such an incredibly smart and kind boy. He is going to do great in school.
Porter really liked his teacher and did great on his assessment. His teacher said that he was exceptionally smart and she wanted to double check on his birthday because he looked the size of a second grader..haha. It eased my nerves to see how much he loved his teacher and how wonderful she was with Porter.
On the morning of Porter’s 1st day, we made him a special breakfast for back to school. He was really excited when he woke up and saw all of the decorations and his favorite foods on the table.
Then of course we had to go outside and take some 1st day of Kindergarten pictures. Porter is such a handsome boy and he looks so grown up to me.
We picked up Porter’s best friend Levi on the way to school who also started Kindergarten but has a different teacher.
And he is off. He was so so excited for his first day!!
And yes, I had some tears that first day! But the minute he walked out of school he said, “Mom, I had such a great day. I love school. When can I go back?” Haha! Since then, there has never been a day that Porter has complained about school. He absolutely loves it. He loves his teacher and every night he lets us know when it is time for him to do his homework! He is such a social butterfly, and I see him running around with a a group of kids every morning. He also has a little girlfriend that gives him a different toy or candy every single day..haha. I might need to talk to her Mom and make sure she knows her daughter is giving my son all of her toys..haha. But I am so happy that Porter is so happy and loves it and is making friends.
HAPPY FIRST DAY OF KINDERGARTEN PORTER!!
