Porter Sleep Study

Porter has had all different kinds of sleep problems since he was born.  He has had frequent awakenings in the middle of the night that sometimes last up to 3 hours, night terrors that have lasted over an hour, super difficulty falling asleep, etc. etc. etc.  The last couple of months he has done a lot better..usually getting 12 or so hours of sleep a night, but he still wakes up with HUGE circles under his eyes and is just tired all of the time.  We were recommended to get a sleep study done by his pediatrician and finally did one on July 15th.

His usually bedtime is around 7:00.  We weren’t allowed to arrive at the sleep clinic until 8:45.  When we first arrived, I was able to read Porter some stories for a couple of minutes before the lab technician came to hook Porter up.  He chose to watch the movie ‘Finding Nemo’ while he was getting all hooked up.

Here is Porter with his technician.  She did such a great job with him!  She helped him feel very relaxed and comfortable with what was going on.

I took this picture of Porter because I was sure that he was almost done getting hooked up, but nope.. I was wrong.

Here he is all hooked up.  To hook him completely up, it took over an hour.  He did SUCH a great job!!  WAY TO GO PORTER.  The part that he hated the most was the nose breathing tubes..poor kid.  It looks so uncomfortable.  How he was supposed to sleep well all hooked up like this, I have no clue.

Porter asked for some red tape just like his to put on his owls wing!  So cute!

It was after 11:30 PM after Porter was all hooked up and in bed.  Poor little guy was completely exhausted.  He was in and out of sleep crying a ton for the first hour.  I think it was mostly just over tiredness and being uncomfortable.  Finally a little after 1:00 AM he fell completely asleep and slept well the rest of the night.

We were awakened at 4:50 in the morning which was WAY WAY WAY TOO EARLY especially with how late we got to bed.  But Porter woke up without any problems and we went and ate some breakfast in their cafeteria.

Then we headed home and luckily Porter was able to fall asleep for a couple more hours.

Today we got Porter’s results back from his sleep study.  We found out that he has Restless Leg Syndrome, Periodic Limb Movement Disorder, and restrictive nasal airflow.  So thankful for some answers for Porter.  We will be making an appointment for Porter on Monday to get some prescriptions for some medications that should help him and his quality of sleep!  Thank you so much for all of your thoughts and prayers for Porter.
